Waiver Appeal at USCGA OPM

Does anyone have any experience with filing a medical waiver appeal? My son received a conditional appointment but was medically denied based on an incidental diagnosis. He has filed his appeal and received word yesterday that his appeal is now with USCGA OPM in Washington, DC.
